Surfing Australia has announced it has appointed Norm Innis as its new chairman after being elected by its members.
In past years the organisation had its president appointed by the State Surfing bodies but the structure was reorganised at a meeting last November. Innis was then appointed at the first board meeting of this month.
Mark Lane, the chief executive officer of Surfing Australia, said "It's great to have someone of Norm's calibre on board. With his many years of experience with Quiksilver and the surfing industry in general, plus his previous involvement with the ASP, and numerous surfing events, Norm brings much to the table."
He added that as Surfing Australia develops a new vision for the sport of surfing in the country, it is important that it embraces "a modern business model for out organisation".
Surfing Australia was established in 1963 and aims to achieve the highest standards of the development and delivery of surfing in Australia.
